West Volusia

Old Florida. Real Florida. Vibrant Florida. Right there between Orlando and Daytona Beach! West Volusia encompasses 14 communities with an eclectic collection of accommodations and attractions. The combination makes for great adventures. Groups small and large find just the right combination of activities and attractions here. And they find authentic Florida experiences they won't soon forget. The authenticity travelers are looking for is here, in DeLand. This "real Florida" downtown has taken the top rating as best downton in central Florida. It's a detination that combines a sense of history and a contemporary vibe. It's home to shops and boutiques, galleries and (nine!) museums. All this plus live theatre, fabulous restaurants, microbreweries and a series of murals - including number one selfie spot #DeLandWings - combine in this delightful downtown setting.

The scenic St. Johns River has long been considered the heart of this region. One of only 14 American Heritage Rivers in the country, it, and the series of lakes it connects, makes up the St. Johns River Blueway and the River of Lakes Heritage Corridor. Blue Spring State Park is a designated manatee refuge and the winter home to a growing population of manatees. The park comprises more than 2,600 acres, including the largest spring on the St. Johns River. Whether by canoe or kayak, river boat or house boat, exploring the river gives visitors access to view turtles, gators, manatees, more than 200 species of birds and a lush, natural Florida landscape. The waters of the region are also well known among fishermen far and wide. Largemouth bass and crappie get top billing, but there's even more for those who love to cast a line.

West Volusia County is only 30 minutes away from two top rated beaches in Florida - Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. Each beach has its own style and flavor, but it's great to add an additional day to the West Volusia experience. While you're here, be sure to check out the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, make your own pancakes in the Old Spanish Sugar Mill in DeLeon Springs State Park, tour the Stetson Mansion, step back in time at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement, and experience so much more! Whether you have a day to spend or a week to relax, you'll run out of time long before you run out of things to do. For more information on West Volusia, click here.
