New Smyrna Beach Rings in its 250th Year
2018 Celebrated with Special Events, Lots of ‘New’

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – As we ring in 2018, New Smyrna Beach will celebrate its 250th year and mark the occasion with multiple special events beginning with IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts. Those visiting in 2018 can also enjoy a new oceanfront Marriott hotel, ocean view restaurant and bar and full-service spa.

While New Smyrna Beach is recognized as one of “The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America”, events such as the destination’s annual IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts have helped cement that reputation.

Presented by the Atlantic Center for the Arts, a multidisciplinary artist residency facility, IMAGES will welcome visitors January 26-28, 2018 in historic downtown New Smyrna Beach. A free festival in Riverside Park and along Canal Street, IMAGES is considered one of the top outdoor art shows in the southeast and in 2017 welcomed more than 48,000 visitors. To celebrate New Smyrna Beach’s 250th birthday, the student art exhibit will feature the work of 100 talented local youth paying tribute to this historic event. Apart from the outstanding art from 225 artists, visitors can also enjoy live music, a beer garden and creative education tent with hands-on art projects for the kids.

In January, the SpringHill Suites New Smyrna Beach will welcome guests to its new oceanfront location just north of Flagler Avenue’s beachside downtown district. The all-suite 114-room Marriott property offers a boardwalk for direct beach access and is within walking distance of Flagler Avenue’s many independent restaurants, surf shops, fresh juice bars and eclectic boutiques. Ideal for work, play or simply to relax, the hotel’s spacious and vibrant interior also offers meeting and event space ideal for small groups and weddings. Each guest room is outfitted with mini-refrigerators, microwaves, wet bars and coffee makers, along with a pull-out sofa bed. Guests will enjoy free Wi-Fi, an oceanfront pool, fitness center, daily health-focused complimentary breakfast, a Market for snacks and necessities available 24/7 and an oceanfront bar & grill.

Just south of the Springhill Suites and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, The Crow’s Nest Bar & Grille is planned to open in mid-January providing unobstructed oceanfront views from its second-level balcony. An ideal New Smyrna Beach location for lunch, dinner, or simply to unwind at the end of the day, the two-story restaurant will feature indoor and outdoor dining, along with an upstairs bar. Guests will enjoy being just steps from the sand and within a short walking distance to Flagler Avenue merchants.

Located along Flagler Avenue, Inn on the Avenue, a seven-room bed and breakfast, is planning to offer in-room spa treatments beginning in mid-February. While its large Mermaid Suite will serve as the spa location when not occupied, treatments will be available in all guest rooms for guests as well as the public. A full menu will include facials, massages and couples’ treatments.

About the New Smyrna Beach Area

The New Smyrna Beach area includes the communities of New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, Oak Hill, Osteen and Port Orange in east Central Florida. New Smyrna Beach is an eclectic mix of old and new; of subtle sophistication and bohemian soul that is as “real” as Florida gets. It occupies a notable place in history as the second oldest city in Florida, site of the largest single attempt at British colonization in the new world. In 2018, New Smyrna Beach will celebrate its 250th birthday. The city’s barrier island is recognized worldwide for its incredible surf with Surfer magazine recently touting it one of the “Best Surf Towns in America” and National Geographic magazine including it in its “World’s Top 20 Surf Towns”. Accommodations range from charming bed and breakfast inns to family-size condominium units and oceanfront hotels. Natural attractions include 17 miles of sandy beaches from Ponce de Leon Inlet to Canaveral National Seashore and North America’s most diverse estuary – the Indian River Lagoon. Two distinct downtowns along Flagler Avenue and Canal Street and connected via the Waterfront Loop welcome visitors with independent restaurants, unique shops, artisanal coffee shops and art galleries.
