Tap into Your Creative Side in NSB, Florida’s Best Small Art Town

The shores of New Smyrna Beach are not just a shining oasis for aquatic adventurers, we’re also a rich haven for art enthusiasts as well, with a colorful array of impressive museums, art galleries, theaters and live events and festivals dotted throughout our destination. Named one of the “100 Best Small Art Towns in America,” you’re sure to feel the creative energy flowing through our streets as you explore some of Florida’s best artistic experiences.
Two of our most notable and reputable spots for art lovers in NSB are the Hub on Canal and Atlantic Center for the Arts. The Hub, located on historic Canal Street, is a truly unique, communal space where artists gather to showcase and teach their crafts. Open to the public, you can stop in to watch the masters at work, take classes and learn a few tricks yourself, shop for unique goods or enjoy one of the many special events and showcases hosted here throughout the year.

The Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) is a Florida-based artist-in-residence program designed to bring together internationally acclaimed artists from different disciplines to hone and perfect their craft. ACA has often been the starting point for new works which are later shown at national museums and performance centers. ACA’s Harris House, along Riverside Drive, is routinely open to the public so all can see the beautiful work created through this program.

Both ACA and The Hub can be explored on NSB’s Arts Trail, which connects seven galleries throughout the city, creating a one-of-a-kind themed adventure that allows art lovers to see NSB’s best galleries, exhibits and more. Other stops on the trail include Jane’s Art Center, which offers pottery classes, and Arts on Douglas, which regularly features visiting artists that work with a diverse variety of mediums. Arts on Douglas is currently showcasing work by artist Rebecca Sexton Larson, who will exhibit her Playback Theatre mixed mediums series until February 18.

Another way to explore the many artistic offerings of NSB is by attending one of our spectacular festivals. From January 28 through 30, our destination will see the return of Images: A Festival of the Arts, a free arts festival that’s ranked 16th best in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. Many galleries, such as Arts on Douglas, will offer exclusive previews of upcoming exhibits during this multi-day festival, as more than 230 artists display their impressive, unique creations. Stroll the streets and immerse yourself in this spectacle of creativity, where you may even find your next favorite piece to adorn the walls of your own home!

There are a multitude of ways to soak in the creativity and artistic beauty brimming in New Smyrna Beach, with offerings sure to spark everyone’s inner artist. From unique galleries and themed artistic experiences to classes and festivals, or even taking in live experiences like the ones available at The Little Theatre, your creative escape awaits.
