Fun Things To Do on a Rainy Day

A little rain doesn’t have to put a damper on your vacation. There’s still plenty of fun to be had when the weather hits in New Smyrna Beach. Check out some of our favorite rainy-day activities. And don’t worry, the sun’ll be peeking out from behind those clouds in no time.

Head to Canal Street Historic Arts District to explore indoor galleries, like The Hub on Canal, Arts on Douglas and more. Inside The Hub, you’ll discover a variety of mediums like painting, sculpture, and photography. If you’re lucky, you may get the chance to visit with a local artist while they work in-studio. The galleries are free to visit.

Step out of the rain and back in time with a visit to one of our area museums. Both the New Smyrna Museum of History and the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum are filled with artifacts, local memorabilia, photography, and more. Learn important and interesting details about the lives of New Smyrna Beach residents throughout history. Both museums are free.

If the weather’s left you with a few hours to spare, then head over to New Smyrna Lanes. The family-owned bowling alley offers 16 lanes with state-of-the-art technology.

Rain in the forecast? Sign up in advance for a class at a local arts-and-crafts workshop like Hammer & Stain, the Bob Ross Art Workshop, or Jane’s Art Center. You’ll be so busy unleashing your creativity that you’ll forget about the rain.

Don’t let a little rain keep you from having a fun night out. Check out the Little Theatre’s website for a list of performances—there just might be something playing during your visit.

  • Unwind with a Spa Day

Escape a drizzly day by booking a treatment at one of our area spas, like The Spa at Venetian Bay or Abundant Health Day Spa. Luxurious mani-pedis, soothing massages, and rejuvenating facials will transport you right to relaxation mode.

Consider yourself a whiz at riddles and clues? Prove it with an afternoon at the NSB Escape Room. In this fun, interactive group experience, participants race the clock and use puzzles to escape from a locked room.

Pop into Sugar Works for a tasting of their popular rum, whiskey, and shine. You can also take a short tour of the distillery and learn about the process for making spirits.

If the local meteorologist is calling for rain during your beach week, then plan ahead for a day indoors by registering for a cooking class. Ed and Nora Pankonin, of Simple & Fresh Cooking School, offer Italian culinary classes for small groups. Past class topics have included lessons on how to make artisan bread, fresh ravioli, Christmas cookies, and more.
