Just because you’re trading for snow for sand doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy festive fun this Christmas. The New Smyrna Beach Area celebrates the season with plenty of holiday events throughout November and December.
The festivities begin on November 29th, with the annual Spark the Spirit event. Canal Street is set aglow during the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. The palms along the historic street are also illuminated. Enjoy hot chocolate, carols, shopping, and even a visit with Santa during the event. The Canal Street fun continues on November 30th with the Coastal Christmas Market. Vendors set up all along the street to sell their original crafts and gifts. Score unique gifts for everyone on your list!
You’ll want to make your way to Flagler Avenue on Friday, December 6th for Light Up Flagler. Restaurants and shops are adorned with brightly colored bulbs and décor to usher in the fun in the beach district. Enjoy special activities, special offers, and much more. Return the following day for the annual New Smyrna Beach Christmas Parade (Saturday, December 7th). Local businesses and organizations deck out their floats, cars, and even scooters in celebration. The parade begins at the corner of Flagler Avenue and South Atlantic, then continues down Flagler and over the North Causeway. It travels down Canal Street before ending at Orange. Go early to snag a spot along the route.
If you prefer prettily decorated homes over parades, then don’t miss the IMAGES Holiday Tour of Homes. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can purchase tickets to view several area homes that are festooned with holiday décor. Tickets are available at select locations.
The holiday events wrap up with the annual boat parade on December 14th. Head to Riverside Park to watch as yachts and boats glide across the Indian River Lagoon, their lights sparkling in the night sky.
