Channel Your Inner Athlete in New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Getting out and being active is key to staying fit and healthy. One of the best ways to stay motivated is by exploring new exercise routines and sports. New Smyrna Beach is the perfect place to get your feet wet with new active experiences, as many options are available for enthusiasts.

For a little friendly competition, grab your friends and challenge each other to a game of tennis or pickleball at one of our wonderful facilities. Tennis fans are sure to love the New Smyrna Beach Tennis Center, which offers a variety of lessons on its multiple courts, in addition to allowing free play. Membership is offered at the center and guests can still play for a small fee. For those wanting to try their hand at pickleball, NSB has several facilities ready for your adventure. Courts are available at Pettis Park in New Smyrna Beach, Timothy Pollard Memorial Park in Ponce Inlet and at the Port Orange Pickleball Courts in the facility’s namesake town.

Pictona Pickleball Facility, a new offering in Holly Hill, is also available for an exciting game, with covered or uncovered court options.

Another way to practice your swing is on one of the many golf courses in the area, such as The City of New Smyrna Beach Golf Course.  The 18-hole Donald Ross-designed course is the perfect place to spend the day playing golf under the Florida sun. The course is one of only about 60 statewide courses listed on the Florida Historic Golf Trail.

For a relaxing way to enjoy your day, try your hand at shuffleboard.  Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club, located right along Flagler Avenue in the heart of New Smyrna Beach, is one of many locations where you can play this unique pastime. Members at this historic 1930s club play recreationally and competitively.

Visitors who enjoy running, walking and participating in races can still enjoy this pastime even when on vacation in New Smyrna Beach.  During the summer months, many races wind their way through the streets of New Smyrna Beach. The Turtle Trot: NSB Beach 5k Run/Walk will make its annual return May 28, taking runners along Flagler Avenue and onto the beautiful sandy beach. Later in the summer, on July 2nd, NSB will host the Ice Cream Beach 5k NSB: Run/Walk. The race also begins on Flagler Avenue and ends on the beach. Finishers get a sample of ice cream once they complete the race!

Golf, pickleball and races are sure ways to stay safe while following local health recommendations, as they maintain a social distance. Be sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and participate in outdoor activities in the morning or evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. Advent Health Hospital has more tips on staying healthy while participating in the many activities available in New Smyrna Beach.
