There’s a lot more to do in New Smyrna Beach than just hang out on the beach. For starters, one of the unique adventures that this area offers is a guided kayak tour along the Indian River Lagoon. The Marine Discovery Center provides these Eco Tours for kayakers of all ages – from novice to expert – offering support along the way so that all you have to do is paddle. Included in each trip is paddling instruction, as well as a nature interpretation from a Florida Naturalist. The miles of backwater will take kayakers to quiet areas where osprey, cormorants, herons and egrets all inhabit, so you can hope to see animals that are a little out of the ordinary. You can also observe the unique flora along the creek with the Naturalist there to answer all of your questions and to point out things that you may have otherwise missed on your own. It’s a great activity for the whole family to do something off the beaten path.
