Named after a well-known local athletic coach who passed away in 1980, the Alonzo 'Babe' James Community Center has undergone several improvements since its opening in the ‘80s. It's jointly operated by the City of New Smyrna Beach, the Boys and Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler Counties, and the New Smyrna Beach Police Athletic League. This community facility is equipped with a gymnasium, game room with ping pong and pool tables available for these and a variety of other activities. The center is available for all ages and currently hosts many of the recreation and leisure services program. Operating hours vary depending on the season.
