Canaveral National Seashore

New Smyrna Beach is part island. So, what happens when you drive to the tip of the southern end of the island? You end up in the Canaveral National Seashore, a park in the US National Park Service. Follow Atlantic Avenue and then Turtlemound Road south through New smyrna and you come to the guard gate that provides access. The park is sandwiched between the Atlantic ocean and the Mosquito Lagoon system, so you get beaches and a brackish water estuary; i.e. Old Florida. Boat ramps can be found within the park at the Canaveral National Seashore as well as kayak/canoe launch points. Open daily 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. in the summer and daily 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the winter.
