Detwiler Park is located at Oakwood Avenue and Horton Street midway between Flagler Avenue and Third Avenue in the central beachside area. This site, less than a half-mile from the New Smyrna Beach shoreline, was donated to the city in the 1930s. In the late '60s, various local associations requested that it be developed into a community recreation area and it underwent renovations in 2007. Geared toward tennis enthusiasts, the park facilities include five lighted tennis courts (no reservations required), lighted basketball court, restroom facilities and a children’s playground. Admission is free. Open daily sunrise to sunset, though lighted facilities allow for extended play.
